The 35th Remembrance Day of Virginia Satir 2023

Virginia Satir (26 June 1916 – 10 September 1988) was a pioneer in family psychotherapist, a therapy that explores the interaction and influence between "inner self" and "family relationship".

Satir believed all people possess the capacity for growth and transformation. She focused on finding the inner self and stimulating change at the core of a person’s being. She believed people could access a spiritual Life Energy to influence their emotions and behaviors, begin or further the journey toward healing and growth, and improve interactions with others by resolving conflict positively without violence or abuse and see things through others’ perspectives.

Through constant practice and reflection, we will then becoming more fully human and achieving “Peace within, peace between, peace among”. Satir's growth model bridges the complexity of psychology and daily life. Everyone has the opportunity to make choices for their own lives, and become a person who is body- mind-spirit as one whole.

Virginia Satir died at 72, on September 10th 1988. For more than thirty years, Satir's teachings has spread all over the world, nourishing and healing countless people and families. In order to commemorate and inherit her spirit and teaching, Satir Whole Person Development Association of Malaysia will carry out a series of activities through the 35th Remembrance Day of Virginia Satir.

The Satir Growth Model focuses on three important things: understanding ourselves, considering others, and taking into account the situation we're in.

For students, they are part of two main environments: school and home. They interact with different people in both places. It would be great if the school and family had the same ideas and worked together to create a good environment for the students to grow. In this environment, everyone can learn from and deal with each other's differences instead of turning them into problems. This helps students grow well and succeed in their goals. If the school and family don't work together, it can cause various issues.

School-based family counseling looks at the needs of students in three areas: their overall development, getting ready for the future, and dealing with any problems they may have. It uses different methods like family therapy and understanding how systems work to help students and their families.
